Overview
Camera Basics 3 – Metering & Color – is the third day of a four-part introduction to using your DSLR or mirrorless camera. Upon completion of the course, you’ll understand the most important controls on your camera and how to properly expose and capture photos, thus beginning your journey as a photography enthusiast.
Requirements
Completion of Camera Basics 1 and 2 or demonstrate an understanding of exposure control, shooting modes, autofocus controls, focus area options, and the focus-and-recompose technique.
You must own or have access to a DSLR or mirrorless camera to complete this course. Your camera must have the following features:
Interchangeable lens
Independently controllable aperture, shutter, and ISO settings and
Manual, Auto, Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority shooting modes

Two hours of classroom instruction with Q&A and a guided exploration of your camera functions and capabilities.
What we’ll cover in this Day 3 class
Metering Modes: understanding how your camera evaluates exposure — critical for stepping into Manual and semi-auto modes.
Histogram & Exposure Tools: understanding the histogram (not just looking at the LCD), highlight warnings (“blinkies”), live view exposure preview
White Balance: Auto vs presets, custom white balance and using gray cards
Color temperature overview (Kelvin scale) for more advanced control
